Murder Inc. Exclusive: Was Richard Wright Murdered by the Original Night Stalker in 1981?
Richard Wright and his wife Marilyn were staying at the Star Motel in Watsonville CA to visit family. When they returned to their room they were surprised by an intruder wearing an old man Halloween mask. He’d gained entry through the bathroom window. The intruder stabbed Richard Wright to death and bound Marilyn with a telephone cord and wire from a satchel. He then cut an X in her chest and carved Helter Skelter into her thighs. The killer used two knives and a scalpel and was described as a white male, 5’10 to 6 feet tall, 20-30 years old with a husky build and carrying an athletic bag. He was wearing dark coveralls and after the murder changed into lighter colored ones. Richard Wright lived in Lakewood 1.5 miles north of Joseph DeAngelo’s home in Long Beach and was buried in Whittier CA.
